Chicago Bulls NBA star Josh Giddey will trade the court for some cards after revealing he will play in the upcoming Aussie Millions Main Event at Crown Melbourne.
Fresh from a standout season with the Bulls in which he averaged 17.0 points, 9.1 assists and 8.3 rebounds per game and finished top three for assists league-wide, Giddey will take his seat in the international renowned poker tournament after signing on behalf of CrownBet – the recent launched sportsbook run by Crown Resorts subsidiary Betfair.
In an interview with Australian sports radio network SEN on Monday, Giddey said, “Poker has been a massive hobby of mine for a number of years now. I watch a lot of it and I love to play it.
“I was actually going to come back and play it anyway but then my agent got connected with CrownBet and it all came about.
“I’m super excited because I’ve always wanted to do it. I’ve always watched the World Series [of Poker] so I’m really excited to play in and to be part of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship.”
Giddey was a 2021 NBA draft pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder before being traded to the Chicago Bulls ahead of the 2024/25 season. Despite the Bulls’ ongoing woes – missing the finals yet again this past season – the Aussie provided a rare bright spot for the famous franchise with a breakout season.
The 2026 Aussie Millions series gets underway this Friday, with the Main Event itself to kick off on Monday 4 May.
