Australia’s Star Entertainment Group will close its three casinos in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast for four hours each morning for a “deep cleaning” as it intensifies measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Starting from Thursday morning, The Star Sydney will close its doors between 6am and 10am while The Star Gold Coast and Treasury Brisbane will close from 4am to 8am daily.

The latest measure comes after Star had announced earlier this week the introduction of social distancing measures including the deactivation of every second gaming machine and electronic table game, and a reduction in capacity of all table games, including increasing distance at seated tables games between players and restricting the total number of players at each stand up table game.

The Star Poker room has also cancelled its weekly tournaments each Monday and Wednesday and limited the number of players at any cash game table to five.

“The Star Entertainment Group is actively engaging with governments in NSW and Queensland and working through our specific position given our properties operate in a precinct fashion,” the company said. “The Star will adhere to any direct advice we receive from governments.”
