Star Entertainment Group has continued its latest efforts to boost leadership across its Australian integrated resorts with the appointment of former Jupiters, Tabcorp and Brisbane Racing Club executive Dave Whimpey as COO and Interim CEO of The Star Brisbane.
A week after John Koster was named new CEO of The Star Sydney, the company said Whimpey would, subject to regulatory approval, bring with him 25 years’ experience across gaming, hospitality and tourism including roles with Jupiter’s Casino – now The Star Gold Coast – as well as KPMG, Tabcorp and Coles Group. More recently, he served as CEO of Surf Life Saving Queensland and prior to that was CEO of Brisbane Racing Club.

“I’m excited to be joining The Star at such a pivotal time as the business embarks on a new era focused on rebuilding, revitalization and restoring confidence,” Whimpey said.
“There is a significant opportunity ahead, and I’m committed to working closely with the refreshed Board, management and our professional team members to contribute positively to the city’s future and the communities we are part of.”
The Star Brisbane, part of the AU$3.6 billion (US$2.5 billion) Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development, opened in August 2024, becoming Star’s third integrated resort alongside The Star Sydney and The Star Gold Coast. It is owned by Destination Brisbane Consortium, of which Star holds a 50% interest.
