Australia’s Star Entertainment Group has announced John Koster, Vice President and General Manager of Bally’s Lake Tahoe and former Regional President, East for Caesars in Atlantic City, as the new CEO of The Star Sydney.
In a social media statement, Star said Koster is an “accomplished casino and hotel executive with more than 40 years of industry experience, including nearly three decades in senior leadership roles across multiple US states and internationally recognized resorts and hotels such as Caesars Entertainment, Eldorado Resorts and Harrah’s.”
It added that Koster has worked across five countries and brings “diversified cultural exposure and a proven track record in leading large-scale hotel and casino organizations”.
His appointment is pending regulatory approval.
Koster’s arrival follows the recent acquisition of a controlling 61% stake in Star by Bally’s Corp and Investment Holdings Pty Ltd, with Bally’s holding a 38% interest and its chairman Soo Kim also becoming chairman of the Star group.
Former CEO of The Star Sydney, Janelle Campbell, announced her departure in November.
Star’s new management team, which also includes Investment Holdings’ Bruce Mathieson Jr as CEO and Managing Director, has already outlined extensive cost-cutting measures since taking control, including slashing around 40 senior management roles and dismantling the corporate office.
In doing so, the company said it plans to hand essential functions back to its properties in Sydney, the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
