Kangwon Land data for the near-nine-month period from 1 January to 15 September 2026 shows that older adults comprise half of those making repeat visits to the property’s casino.
According to a report by Seoul Economic Daily, Rep. Cha Kyu-keun of the Rebuilding Korea Party this week made the data public, revealing that 50.1% of the 12,586 frequent visitors – those who entered on at least 30 different days – were aged 60 or older.
The age group also accounted for 48.1% of those who visited the casino on at least 60 different days. In total, 7.2% of guests aged 60 or older visited 30 times or more compared to 2.4% of visitors aged below 60.
Notably, total admissions by the older age group reached 972,440 in 2025 – up from 711,659 three years earlier. They now comprise 41.5% of total admissions versus 34.2% in 2022.
It is claimed that the rising trend is linked to “insecure retirement prospects” among older adults, with Seoul Economic Daily citing recent statistics from the National Data Agency which found that 35.6% of older adults said they were not preparing for retirement.
“The share of older people among long-term and repeat visitors is overwhelmingly high, and it is rising steeply,” said Rep. Cha. “Kangwon Land must put protecting older customers ahead of casino revenue and move quickly to strengthen tailored prevention measures, including inspections of frequent-visit patterns and referrals to professional counseling.”
Kangwon Land is the only casino in South Korea at which locals are permitted to gamble.
