Foreigner-only casino operator Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) reported casino revenue of KRW31.1 billion (US$22.9 million) in August, down 11.3% year-on-year and 25.4% month-on-month.
The decline came despite a 7.2% year-on-year and 5.0% month-on-month rise in drop amount to KRW341.4 billion (US$252 million).
The August result included a 10.8% year-on-year fall in table games revenue to KRW27.8 billion (US$20.5 million) and a 15.4% increase in machine revenue to KRW3.30 billion (US$2.43 million).
For the first eight months of 2026 combined, casino sales reached KRW300.0 billion (US$221 million), up 5.6% year-on-year.
The lower August result follows reports earlier this week that South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has launched an investigation into GKL and its Seven Luck Casino operation due to allegations the company may have artificially inflated the number of visitors in 2025.
GKL operates three casinos in South Korea in Seoul and Busan under the Seven Luck brand.
