Just two weeks after making a Php2 billion (US$32.6 million) investment into the company, billionaire Filipino businessman Lance Gokongwei has been appointed to the board of PhilWeb Corporation.
The gaming technology firm confirmed via a Friday filing that Gokongwei has been appointed as a director following the departure from the board of Susana Fong and Ismael Augusto S. Gozon.
Aldous Brigino, a seasoned business executive in the payments and fintech space, has also joined as a non-executive director.
As reported by Inside Asian Gaming, Gokongwei has made a personal investment into PhilWeb as the company continues to experience explosive growth since expanding further into the Philippines’ online gaming market as a Gaming System Administrator. The company has recently inked deals to support the online gaming arms of Hann Casino Resort, Okada Manila, NUSTAR and Newport World Resorts, and has entered into a strategic service agreement with FBM Philippines supporting its network of gaming machines and venues.
Gokongwei is the President, CEO and Executive Director of Philippines conglomerate JG Summit Holdings, whose business arms include food and beverage giant Universal Robina Corporation, real estate developer Robinsons Land Corporation and local airline Cebu Air.
The group’s leisure arm, Universal Hotels and Resorts Inc, counts NUSTAR Resort Cebu among its core assets.
