Philippines gaming technology firm PhilWeb Corporation has appointed independent director Marie Antonette “Tonet” Quiogue – the CEO and founder of specialist gaming law firm Arden Consult – as Chairman of its Corporate Governance Committee.
Tonet, who joined the PhilWeb board earlier this year following a change of ownership, is also an Expert Contributor to Inside Asian Gaming and its sister brand Complete iGaming.
Her appointment as chair of the Corporate Governance Committee was ratified at PhilWeb’s Organizational Meeting of the Board of Directors, which followed the company’s Annual Stockholders’ Meeting on Wednesday.
Arden said in comments sent to IAG that the role places Tonet at the head of the board committee tasked with safeguarding governance standards. The Corporate Governance Committee is, it noted, responsible for overseeing a listed company’s corporate governance framework, leading the performance evaluation of the board and management, determining the director nomination and election process, overseeing succession planning and director training, and helping ensure the company’s disclosures remain transparent.
The organizational meeting also saw a reconstitution of PhilWeb’s key board committees. Newly appointed director Ismael Augusto S. Gozon was named Chairman of the Audit Committee, while Tonet is joined on the Corporate Governance Committee by fellow independent directors Anthony Ferdinand C. Yu and Daniel Tirona Francisco. The Audit Committee is chaired by Gozon, with Yu and Francisco as members.
The governance appointment comes a day after IAG reported that Filipino billionaire Lance Gokongwei, the President and CEO of conglomerate JG Summit Holdings – whose interests include NUSTAR Resort Cebu – would make a personal investment of Php2 billion (US$32.6 million) into PhilWeb for 10% of the company’s common shares and a further 5% via convertible preferred shares.
PhilWeb said the subscription, priced at Php8 per share, would be funded from a proposed increase in its authorized capital stock from Php2.6 billion to Php3.6 billion, subject to the approval of stockholders, the SEC and other regulators.
Historically known as an operator of e-Games outlets, PhilWeb has undergone a transformation in 2026, reinventing itself as a business-to-business provider of online gaming platforms and content following its B2B accreditation under the PAGCOR framework.
Central to that strategy is the company’s game content distribution and aggregation business, through which PhilWeb is building a content-aggregation layer that allows licensed operators to access a broad portfolio of compliant gaming content from leading global studios through a single, unified platform interface. The model positions PhilWeb as a technology backbone for the regulated market rather than a direct operator.
The company has since announced a series of deals to support the online gaming arms of Hann Casino Resort, Okada Manila, NUSTAR and Newport World Resorts, with NUSTAR Online named among the first clients of its content distribution and aggregation business. It has also entered into a strategic service agreement with FBM Philippines covering the supplier’s network of gaming machines and venues.
The shift helped PhilWeb return to profit in 1Q26, reporting net income after tax of Php13.9 million (US$232,000), reversing a Php25.5 million (US$426,000) loss in the same period a year earlier.
