Forbes’ The Global 2000 list for this year saw top gaming operators Las Vegas Sands, MGM Resorts and Galaxy Entertainment rank among the world’s largest public companies by sales, profits, assets and market value.
Aristocrat Leisure also made the list, as did cruise operator Carnival Corporation, which operates itineraries in Asia-Pacific.
Amongst the casino operators, Las Vegas Sands enjoyed the highest ranking, coming in at No.766 on annual sales of US$13.7 billion, profit of US$1.84 billion, assets totaling US$21.2 billion and a market value of US$33.9 billion, according to Forbes.
The casino operator, which now only operates in Asia after selling off its US interests, is the parent company of Macau concessionaire Sands China and Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands.
MGM Resorts was significantly further down the list, also classified under the “Hotels, Restaurants & Leisure” category, coming in at No.1310. Forbes classified MGM’s annual sales at US$17.7 billion, with profit of US$187.7 million, assets worth US$41.4 billion – the fourth-highest in its category – and a market value of US$9.46 billion.
MGM Resorts is the parent company of MGM China, which operates MGM MACAU and MGM COTAI in the world’s largest gambling hub.
Coming in at No.1436 on this year’s list is Galaxy Entertainment, with annual sales of US$3.8 billion, profit of US$1.37 billion, assets worth US$12.8 billion and a market value of US$18.5 billion. Galaxy is the only one of the Asian casino operators that solely operates in one jurisdiction, although – due to its strong balance sheet – it could in the future expand its gaming portfolio beyond Macau.
Aristocrat Leisure was ranked No.1490 on Forbes’ annual list, with sales of US$4.16 billion, profit of US$973.5 million, assets worth US$6.61 billion and a market value of US$22.2 billion.
Cruise operator Carnival Corporation – which operates the Carnival Luminosa and Carnival Adventure cruise ships in Asia-Pacific – was ranked at No.420, with annual sales of US$27.0 billion, profit of US$3.1 billion, assets worth US$51.6 billion and a market value of US$30.5 billion.
Forbes’ The Global 2000 is now in its 24th year, with this year’s list seeing the listed companies accounting for US$56 trillion in annual revenue, US$5.5 trillion in profit, US$272.2 trillion in assets and a record US$121.9 trillion in market value – up by 31.8% from last year.
