StarDream Cruises, the Singapore-based cruise company owned by Genting Group patriarch Lim Kok Thay, says it will as of this Friday 26 June fully waive a fuel surcharge for sailings from Singapore and Malaysia on two of its ships: Genting Dream and Star Voyager.
The surcharge of around SG$15 per guest, per night was introduced in mid-March in response to rising oil prices due to the conflict in the Middle East. The company stated at the time that the fuel surcharge would be “reviewed in line with fuel price movements and may be adjusted downward if prices ease or revised for new bookings should prices continue to rise.”
In a series of statements issued Tuesday, StarDream Cruises said both Genting Dream, operated by Dream Cruises, and Star Voyager, operated by StarCruises, would have the fuel surcharge fully waived when sailing from Singapore or Malaysia.
“As a result, guests will no longer be subject to the fuel surcharge previously introduced in response to elevated fuel costs,” the company said. “We will continue to monitor fuel price movements and market conditions closely. Should circumstances change significantly in the future, any necessary updates will be communicated accordingly.”
StarDream Cruises is the new brand name of Resorts World Cruises, which was launched by the Lim family in 2022 following the collapse of Genting Hong Kong.
