Genting Group patriarch Lim Kok Thay and NagaCorp’s Chen family have both been named among the 20 richest in Malaysia this year as part of the latest Forbes list of the 50 richest in the country.
According to the media outlet’s calculations, Lim – the son of Genting Group founder Lim Goh Tong – ranks 15th in 2026 with a personal fortune of US$1.65 billion. However, this represents a slide from No.9 last year when his fortune was estimated at US$2.2 billion.
Genting has been busy over the past year, winning a full casino license for its existing racino Resorts World New York City in downstate New York and investing heavily in the US$5 billion expansion of Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore via its subsidiaries. The company also counts Resorts World Genting in Malaysia and Resorts World Las Vegas among its core assets.
The Chen family also slipped slightly in 2026, from 18th spot down to 20th with a fortune of US$1.4 billion. The family which controls NagaWorld in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, debuted on the list last year following the passing of founder Dr Chen Lip Keong in 2023. Three of Dr Chen’s sons took over NagaCorp at that time, with Chen Yiy Fon now serving as the company’s CEO and Executive Director.
According to Forbes, the combined wealth of Malaysia’s 50 Richest grew by nearly 30% to US$116 billion this year, buoyed by an economy that expanded 5.2% in 2025, an appreciating ringgit and a buoyant IPO market that had a total of 60 new listings last year.
The wealth of the country’s richest person, 102-year-old businessman Robert Kuok – whose Kuok Group’s interests cover everything from agribusiness to hospitality and data centers – rose 19% to US$13.6 billion.
