A planned expansion of the Poipet border checkpoint connecting Cambodia and Thailand will “definitely” benefit Star Vegas Resort & Casino, according to operator Donaco International.
Cambodian Interior Minister Sar Kheng revealed last week that the government would construct a new building at the checkpoint due to the growing number of people crossing through the checkpoint each day, with work due to start later this month.
The new building will be three stories high and cover 1.5 hectares of land.
Contacted by Inside Asian Gaming, a Donaco spokesperson said the checkpoint “will definitely help as that border crossing is a real choke point.
“It seems busier than ever, so anything that improves the experience for our customers is a plus,” they added.
Donaco recently announced that it would begin operations of its new junket facilities this month, which include 12 online gaming tables to be operated by third party junkets.
The new junket deal follows a split with former junket partner Hengsheng Group in February 2016, whose exclusivity deal prevented Donaco from working with other junkets.
“This will represent the first time that the online gaming license at Star Vegas has been used,” Donaco said if its new junket plans.
“Both the new entertainment facilities and the online gaming area are expected to commence operations within the next month. This will enable Donaco and Vivo Tower to accelerate the marketing of the property to international junkets.”
