New Zealand’s SkyCity Entertainment Group says it has suspended operations at its SkyCity Hamilton casino, located 115km south of Auckland, for at least five days after two new COVID-19 cases were detected in the Waikato region.

Prime Minister Jacinda Adern announced a snap lockdown for parts of Waikato, including the Hamilton CBD, on Sunday with the closure of SkyCity Hamilton coming just a month after the company’s Hamilton and Queenstown casinos reopened following the last COVID scare.

Flagship property SkyCity Auckland remains closed with another 32 cases recorded in New Zealand’s most populous city on Sunday.

SkyCity Queenstown is still open, as is the company’s Australian integrated resort SkyCity Adelaide.

SkyCity recently reported a 15.4% decline in revenue to NZ$951.9 million (US$660.4 million) and a 33.7% fall in profit to NZ$156.1 million (US$108.3 million) in the 12 months to 30 June 2021, impacted by ongoing COVID-19 disruptions.
