DigiPlus Interactive Corp said in a Wednesday filing that it has opted not to take part in the final round of bidding for a New Zealand online casino license.
The Philippines’ leading online operator, which was not named by New Zealand’s Department of Internal Affairs earlier this week as one of the 11 entities permitted to bid for the maximum 15 licenses on offer, explained that it had “decided to abstain from the final rounds of the New Zealand auction on the right to apply for an online gaming license.”
This, it added, was “after further market analysis and determination of market values” and “results in no impact on the company’s businesses or deviation from the company’s international expansion strategy.”
DigiPlus had in August filed with the DIA an Expression of Interest to apply for a gaming license in New Zealand, having previously expanded into Brazil and South Africa.
As reported by Inside Asian Gaming, the 11 entities selected by the New Zealand regulator to proceed include those associated with SkyCity Entertainment Group, Ed Craven’s Stake, sports betting licensee Entain, Betway and Super Group, among others.
An analysis of the SkyCity opportunity by research firm Forsyth Barr found the online opportunity would likely be break even and is therefore viewed as strategic in nature.
