Malaysia’s Resorts World Genting doesn’t look likely to open any time soon after a new recovery plan announced by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin failed to green light casinos.

While shares in Genting Malaysia jumped by more than 10% on Tuesday on investor excitement over a rumored reopening of Resorts World Genting, the company later revealed it would remain closed until further notice in an update on its corporate website. The hotels and facilities at Resorts World Awana, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi will also remain closed for the foreseeable future.

Genting Malaysia’s properties have already been shuttered for three months, with the company announcing recently that completion of its new outdoor theme park would also be delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Yassin revealed this week that Malaysia would enter into a recovery phase, known as a Recovery Movement Control Order, until 31 August 2020.
