Japanese pachinko hall operator Dynam Japan recorded a 4.2% increase in profit attributable to owners of the company for the six months to 30 September 2019, with the company pointing to a focus on low-cost operations and “multi-hall development” for the improvement.

The increase came despite a slight 2.0% decrease in gross pay-ins to JPY379.27 billion due to a 5.1% fall in high playing cost hall pay-ins. Gross pay-ins at low playing cost halls grew 2.3% to JPY167.71 billion.

Revenue for the period rose 0.5% to JPY73.97 billion.

Dynam has been actively looking to revitalize its pachinko business by changing its focus from high playing cost halls to low playing cost halls and targeting entertainment over volatility.

The company stated earlier this year that it wanted to “reinvent pachinko gaming as a form of everyday entertainment that everyone can easily enjoy, as a regional infrastructure.”

Dynam has also expanded its interests into the aircraft leasing business.

Discussing the six month results, Dynam Chairman and CEO Kohei Sato said, “We have continued to maximize our leverage as the leading company in order to steadily accumulate profits over the long-term via multiple-hall development and low- cost operations. Apart from the dedication in exceling in our pachinko business, we will also strive to expand our new businesses by purchasing more aircrafts as well as developing new casino machines.

“With our existing leadership in the pachinko business complemented with new business opportunities and revenue streams, we believe we can further create value and deliver steadily increasing returns to shareholders in the long run.”
