Genting’s Resorts World New York City (RWNYC) has added an additional 1,400 slot machines to its gaming inventory after opening the new first floor of its commercial casino this week.
The launch of the additional gaming space comes less than three months after RWNYC introduced downstate New York’s first table games, having been one of three operators to be selected for a full casino license by New York’s Gaming Facility Location Board (GFLB) late last year.
The company said via a Tuesday press release that its slot machine inventory has now grown to 3,900, with the additional 1,400 machines expected to significantly increase gross gaming revenue and commensurate taxes to the state of New York.
“Since the moment we opened, our slot machines have been incredibly popular with the public, generating more than US$230 million in gross gaming revenue in just 11 weeks,” said Robert DeSalvio, President of Genting Americas East. “With these 1,400 new games, we will be able to accommodate more patrons and generate even more in taxes for the state.”
RWNYC added that the new gaming floor includes a themed “Dragon Den” zone, described as an immersive slot experience featuring 114 of Aristocrat’s most popular themes, among them 48 Dragon Link games and a US$1 million progressive jackpot.
The recent introduction of table games and opening of the first-floor gaming area represents the initial stage of Genting’s planned US$5.5 billion buildout at RWNYC, located in Queens. By 2030, the property is expected to comprise a 350,000-square-foot gaming floor with 6,000 slot machines and 800 live table games, a 7,000-seat entertainment venue, 2,000 hotel rooms and more than 10 acres of public green space.
New York’s Gaming Facility Location Board (GFLB) confirmed in December that it was awarding full casino licenses to three entities, namely Genting Malaysia’s RWNYC, Bally’s Corp in the Bronx and a partnership between New York Mets owner Steve Cohen and Hard Rock International in Metropolitan Park.
However, RWNYC holds a significant first mover advantage as it gradually transforms its existing property while Bally’s and Hard Rock build their resorts from scratch.
