Philippines gaming technology firm PhilWeb has named a new Board of Directors following a change of ownership last week, with Marie Antonette “Tonet” B. Quiogue among the new directors.
Tonet, the founder of specialist gaming law firm Arden Consult, was recently named as Inside Asian Gaming’s first “Expert Contributor” given her position as a leading authority on Philippine gaming law.
Also on the new Board of Directors is online gaming specialist Claire Tsu Chuan Tseng, real estate professional Daniel Tirona Francisco and sales and business development veteran Anthony Ferdinand C. Yu.
Their appointments come after Gregorio “Greggy” Araneta III sold his 57% stake in PhilWeb, with control of the company last week transferred to new ownership. As such, former directors Edgar N. Ang, Atty. Mario A. Oreta, William M. Valtos Jr and hilip S. Tuazon submitted their resignations as agreed prior to the sale being completed.
Notably, Tonet issued a statement shortly after her appointment as a non-executive director became official in which she outlined her reasons for joining the board of PhilWeb.
“Before accepting this position, I carefully considered the appointment to ensure that it would not create any conflict, or even the perception of conflict, with my role as legal advisor to gaming and gaming-related companies operating in, or seeking to operate in, the Philippines,” she explained.
“The Board of PhilWeb is aware of my professional role in the industry. My participation on the Board will be limited to my duties as an independent director, contributing an objective perspective on governance, regulatory developments and broader industry trends, including insights from the global gaming landscape.
“To further ensure that my independence and professional obligations remain fully preserved, I will recuse myself from any discussions or matters that may intersect with my advisory work or otherwise affect my objectivity.”
PhilWeb, which has a lengthy history in retail eGames in the Philippines, has been active lately, developing and launching an online gaming platform for Hann Casino Resort in Clark and revealing it will also provide technology services, systems integration and regulatory-compliant support for a new online platform supporting FBM’s network of gaming machines and venues.
