Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s Morpheus hotel at City of Dreams Macau has become Macau’s first and only Three MICHELIN Keys hotel – the hospitality equivalent of Michelin’s famed gastronomic “star” system.
Morpheus, one of 19 properties across Hong Kong and Macau – nine of them in Macau – to be granted MICHELIN Key recognition in 2026, was promoted from Two to Three MICHELIN Keys, reflecting “an extraordinary stay.” Michelin said Morpheus “stands as a triumph of futuristic architectural design and ultra-luxury hospitality. Designed by the late Dame Zaha Hadid, the iconic steel-exoskeleton tower seamlessly merges cutting-edge engineering with world-class gastronomy and personalized guest services.”
Banyan Tree Macau, located at Galaxy Macau, was also promoted from One to Two MICHELIN Keys – joining SJM’s Grand Lisboa Palace Macau, Palazzo Versace Macau and The Karl Lagerfeld – while Four Seasons Hotel Macau, The Londoner Macau, The Ritz-Carlton Macau and The St. Regis Macau all received One MICHELIN Key.
The MICHELIN Guide explained that its hotel selection is based on the work of inspectors who travel anonymously and independently to identify hotels offering outstanding experiences. The selection spans a wide range of properties, from historic landmarks and grand hotels to independent boutiques, remote retreats and innovative new openings.
The MICHELIN Key was Introduced in 2024 across 15 destinations in North America, Europe and Asia and has since expanded into a global distinction. Hotels are awarded One, Two or Three MICHELIN Keys, according to the level of experience they offer.
Currently, 2,832 hotels hold a MICHELIN Key globally, including 470 new Key hotels across 79 destinations in 2026.
Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, said the growth of the hotel selection comes at a particularly interesting moment for the industry.
“This second global selection of the MICHELIN Keys reflects the extraordinary momentum driving the hospitality sector once again this year,” said Poullennec.
“With nearly 470 newly distinguished establishments, we are witnessing a continuous upscaling of the offering, driven by even more creative and ambitious projects. All around the world, hoteliers are reinventing the stay experience through more immersive, personalized, and experiential concepts.
“This capacity for innovation is expressed both in must-visit destinations and in emerging tourist markets. Often driven by visionary independent hotelkeepers, this evolution in concepts is now inspiring the industry as a whole. It is also supported by investments from major international groups, which are helping to accelerate this transformation.
“The 2026 selection thus celebrates the diversity, vitality, and excellence of an ever-evolving sector, one that continues to push the boundaries of the hospitality experience and invite travelers to discover new destinations.”
