Manila’s Newport World Resorts is celebrating one of its own after Director of Mixology Edu Zamora emerged victorious at the Espolòn Tequila Cocktail Fight – a competition between around 100 bartenders from across Metro Manila.
First launched in New York City in 2013, the live, head-to-head competition tests skill, speed, creativity and performance under pressure. Zamora will now represent the Philippines at the Espolòn Cocktail Fights World Championship in Guadalajara, Mexico.
According to details posted on social media by NWR, the integrated resort boasted a five-person contingent at the Espolòn Tequila Cocktail Fight, including Jezza Solano of The Whisky Library – who joined Zamora in the top eight – Raymart Besmonte and Vanessa Mae Daroca of Casa Buenas and Christopher Rey of Sonata Lounge. Their performance highlights the beverage team members behind the distinctive guest experiences across the property, NWR explained.
“Edu’s championship is a proud moment for Newport World Resorts and reflects the exceptional skill he brings to our mixology program at The Whisky Library,” said NWR’s Chief Hospitality Officer, John Lucas.
“As he prepares to represent the Philippines in Mexico, his achievement brings wider recognition to the Filipino talent shaping our dining and beverage experiences. It reinforces our commitment to distinctive hospitality and inspires our people to keep advancing their craft.”
