Hong Kong-listed Success Universe Group has reported a loss attributable to owners of the company of HK$52.9 million (US$6.75 million) for the six months ended 30 June 2026, expanded from HK$33.7 million (US$4.30 million), primarily due to the closure of the satellite casino at its Macau resort Ponte 16 late last year.
The property is a joint venture partnership with Macau concessionaire SJM Holdings that sees Success Universe hold a 49% stake in Ponte 16’s operating entity Pier 16 – Property Development and the other 51% owned by SJM.
Its casino was shuttered in November as per the Macao SAR Government’s order for all satellite casinos to close and following a decision by SJM not to take full ownership.
In a filing, Success Universe said it had shared a loss of the associates relating to Ponte 16 in 1H26 of HK$20.6 million (US$2.63 million) compared with a profit of HK$48.5 million (US$6.19 million) a year earlier.
This was despite group-wide revenue rising by 11% to HK$32.0 million (US$4.08 million), with the company pointing to the cessation of casino operations for the group-wide loss.
Success Universe also revealed that Pier 16 – Property Development has entered into negotiations with its bank over existing loan facilities of HK$160 million (US$20.4 million) and MOP$273 million (US$33.8 million) respectively, which matured on 23 June 2026.
According to Success Universe, Pier 16 – Property Development is in negotiation with the bank to extend the maturity date of the Facility Agreement to 23 September 2026. Pier 16 – Property Development has entered into a pledge of bank account agreement whereby a fixed despot of MOP$150 million (US$18.6 million) was pledged to the bank, however Success Universe added that the extension is still under negotiation and no documents other than the pledge agreement have been executed by Pier 16 – Property Development and the group.
Despite this, the company – which also operates a small travel business, is engaged in property investment and has invested US$50 million into electric vehicle giant Tesla – said it remains confident in Ponte 16’s outlook.
“Following the cessation of Casino Ponte 16’s operation, Ponte 16 revitalized and transformed its venue spaces to enhance its leisure-entertainment offerings and promote local cultural heritage,” it said. “To drive visitor engagement, particularly among younger demographics, Ponte 16 hosted a series of vibrant cultural events during the reporting period, such as the ‘Festival of the Drunken Dragon’ performance and the ‘Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride 2026.’ These were complemented by interactive social media campaigns.
“Going forward, Ponte 16 will leverage its unique heritage footprint to expand its hospitality and leisure-entertainment offerings, further enhancing its mass-market appeal.”
Success Universe said the average occupancy rate of Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 was approximately 80% in 1H26, down from 86% a year earlier.
