Genting Malaysia has begun the process to dissolve a subsidiary it previously incorporated in Macau as part of its unsuccessful efforts to win a gaming concession in the Special Administrative Region back in 2022.
In a filing, the Malaysian casino operator said that shareholders in its dormant wholly-owned subsidiary GMM Limited had resolved to dissolve the entity and that a voluntary liquidation had begun. Relevant documents were submitted to the Commerce and Movable Property Registry of Macau on Thursday 13 August 2026.
As reported by Inside Asian Gaming at the time, Genting Malaysia emerged as a surprise seventh bidder for a Macau gaming concession when a representative named Mrs Chen submitted the bid to the bidding committee in the final hours before the Macao SAR Government closed the submission period for bids under its re-tender process for new concessions. Mrs Chen, accompanied by three other people, submitted two boxes of documents before confirming to attending media that GMM was associated with Genting Malaysia and the person in charge was Genting Group Chairman Lim Kok Thay.
“Mr Lim Kok Thay wanted to come to Macau [to submit Genting’s bid] but he couldn’t come because of the pandemic,” she explained at the time.
Genting ultimately failed in its concession bid, with the Macao SAR Government announcing in November 2022 that the existing six concessionaires would be awarded new 10-year concessions.
Genting Malaysia said in Thursday’s filing that the members’ voluntary liquidation of GMM would not have any material impact on the net assets and earnings per share of the group for the financial year ending 31 December 2026.
