A sweep of all 195 licensed casinos in Cambodia has found 72 of them to be involved in online fraud, according to information contained in a one-year report into its online scam crackdown presented by the government on Friday.
In a statement, the government said it had raided a total of 737 online scam centers between June 2025 and June 2026 and inspected 28,500 locations, uncovering illegal operations at 665 sites.
The Khmer Times said this had included inspecting all of Cambodia’s 195 casinos. It was reported by The Phnom Penh Post that this resulted in 19 casinos having their licenses revoked and another 30 suspended over alleged links to online scams, while 23 more were found to have ceased operations after their licenses expired.
The details of the report, submitted by Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith to a 24 July Cabinet meeting, were described by Prime Minister Hun Manet as “a major step forward” in the government’s efforts to eradicate the scam hub plague.
The report noted that progress has included the strengthening of international cooperation with many other countries including China, the US, South Korea, Japan, Australia, ASEAN member states, INTERPOL, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Mekong-Lancang Integrated Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center (LMLECC).
Aside from raiding multiple sites, Cambodia has deported more than 21,100 foreign nationals from 38 countries while bringing 268 cases involving 2,773 suspects before the courts, the report claims.
