Macau’s Judiciary Police (PJ) have once again cracked a case involving the livestreaming of casino gambling via mobile phone and arrested a man from the mainland. This marks the fourth such case detected in less than a fortnight.

According to the details of the case, while conducting crime prevention patrols at a Macau casino on Wednesday 8 July, PJ officers spotted a mainland man behaving suspiciously in front of a slot machine. After reviewing surveillance footage, they suspected he was engaging in illegal activities.

Upon interception and investigation by the police, it was discovered that the man used black clothing as a disguise, hiding his mobile phone in his chest pocket. He used the phone’s camera to film the slot machine screen and transmitted live images via communication software for a gambler in the mainland to watch – placing bets according to the gambler’s instructions.

The man confessed to the police that since 6 July he had been providing mobile livestreaming proxy betting services for a mainland gambler, having done so three times so far. The gambler would transfer approximately HK$10,000 each time to be used for betting. If they won, the man would receive half of the winnings as a reward and could also earn casino membership points.

However, the man claimed that all three gambling sessions resulted in losses, so he had not received any monetary reward so far – though he had earned HK$1,550 worth of casino membership points.

The PJ pointed out that the man is suspected of committing the crime of “illegal operation of online games of chance or online mutual betting.”

This case is already the fourth of its kind detected by police recently, with a total of four mainland men arrested for involvement in similar cases. The first detected case occurred on 29 June. After his arrest, the suspect claimed he could receive a reward of HK$1,000 for each bet he placed for clients, having made a profit of no less than HK$20,000 since May.

Subsequently, on Sunday 5 July, the police arrested another two mainland men suspected of engaging in relevant activities.
