Macau concessionaire MGM China has announced the strategic acquisition of MGM Asia-Pacific Ltd – a hospitality entity that operates eight hotels in mainland China and has 12 more projects under development – from US-based parent company MGM Resorts International.
The US$20 million transaction for 100% of the issued share capital of MGM Asia-Pacific Ltd was completed on Tuesday 30 June 2026 and funded by internal cash, MGM China confirmed via a Hong Kong Stock Exchange filing.
MGM Asia-Pacific Ltd is described as a light-asset hotel management business which doesn’t own the hotels it operates but instead provides branding, management, marketing, loyalty, training and technical services in return for management fees. MGM China said the business’s principal operating revenue sources include management fees, technical service fees, marketing fund contributions, “Mlife” loyalty program fees via access to over 1.5 million “Mlife” loyalty program members, sales commissions, distribution fees, corporate training fees and branded residences-related fees.
It added, “[MGM China] considers that the acquisition represents a strategic opportunity for the Group to consolidate and strengthen its presence in the hospitality management and cultural tourism sectors in Greater China.
“Following completion of the acquisition, the Company will obtain strategic and operational control over [MGM Asia-Pacific Ltd] through its management rights and will be able to align their business with the Group’s long-term development strategy.”
MGM Asia-Pacific Ltd was, MGM China added, established in 2006 and conducts its hospitality business through MGM Hospitality, which has been developed over approximately 19 years as an independently operated hospitality platform for MGM-branded projects in mainland China.
“The Group will assume the operating history, brand platform and relationship network that MGM Hospitality has developed over nearly two decades,” it said.
The eight operating hotels are Bellagio by MGM Shanghai, MGM Shanghai West Bund, MGM Grand Sanya, Mhub by MGM Nanjing Jiangning, Diaoyutai Hotel Qingdao, MGM Qingdao, MGM Reserve Zhuhai and MGM Shenzhen Prince Bay.
MGM Asia-Pacific Ltd is currently loss making, with revenue of RMB80.6 million (US$11.9 million) and a net loss of RMB7.7 million (US$1.13 million) in 2025 and is therefore viewed as a strategic acquisition by MGM China.
