Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has once again issued a press release regarding rumors of card shoe tampering in the city’s casinos. The Bureau emphasized that members of the public should not lightly believe or forward unverified information and must remain vigilant against scams.

The latest update comes after content alleging “cheating” through the card shoes used in Macau casinos began circulating on social media platforms in mainland China recently. The DICJ previously issued a statement in which it clarified, “All gaming equipment operating within Macau’s entertainment venues is subject to strict supervision and must comply with relevant laws, regulations, technical standards and safety requirements.”

However, in recent days, individuals on mainland social media platforms have further claimed that “those defrauded by the casino black boxes (card shoes) can recover refunded bets through unofficial channels,” with some even calling on victims to contact specific individuals for assistance.

In response, the DICJ stated that such information is highly likely to involve fraud. The agency specifically appealed to the public not to believe or forward unverified information to avoid falling victim to such scams.

It said that such claims are entirely without factual basis and that the social media messages are likely fraudulent tactics against which the public must heighten vigilance.

The DICJ also reiterated that before any electronic gaming equipment is put into operation, it must undergo independent testing by a third-party organization recognized by the government, and that it can only be deployed after receiving approval.

“The DICJ also conducts on-site verifications through regular inspections and surprise checks on equipment software versions, packaging integrity and random number generation mechanisms to ensure continuous compliance,” it stated. “Recently, no equipment has been found to have abnormalities or non-compliance.”

The agency reminded the public that all gaming disputes should be reported through official channels, with resident inspectors stationed at all gaming venues across Macau to provide real-time supervision.
