Sands China has confirmed the return of the Sands China Ltd Macau Open Badminton 2026 tournament, set to run from 16 to 21 June at the Macao East Asian Games Dome.
The event is a partnership with the Badminton Federation of Macau (BFM) and aims to fully align with the Macao SAR government’s “Tourism+” strategy for diversified development, Sands explained, further elevating Macau’s international profile as a “City of Sports.”
This year’s edition will continue to feature a series of community outreach activities with the goal of transforming the sporting event into a force for community care and further fostering public enthusiasm and engagement in badminton.
As an event of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300, the 2026 Macau Open will comprise five events: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The total prize money for this year’s tournament will be US$370,000, the highest in the Super 300 series this year.
Sands said this year’s tournament has received applications from 390 players across 29 countries and regions, with 275 qualifying. The line-up includes Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin, the Chinese national team’s world No. 2 mixed doubles pair; He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu, the Chinese national men’s doubles pair who won the Thomas Cup in May; Lee Zii Jia, Malaysia’s bronze medalist in men’s singles at the 2024 Olympics; men’s singles players Angus Ng Ka Long from Hong Kong, China; Teh Jia Heng from Singapore; Kim Ga-Eun, world No.16 in women’s singles from South Korea, who led her team to victory in the Uber Cup; and Thailand’s women’s singles duo Busanan Ongbamrungphan and Pitchamon Opatniputhm. Macau players will be competing across all five tournament events.
“Sands China has co-organized the ‘Sands China Ltd Macau Open Badminton’ tournament with the Badminton Federation of Macau (BFM) for three consecutive years,” said Dr Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd.
“The tournament’s broad support across the community has fully demonstrated the far-reaching impact of international sporting events, while the event itself has contributed to the Macao SAR government’s ‘Tourism + Sports’ direction. Sands China has long been committed to supporting Macau’s large-scale sports events. Through concrete actions and concerted efforts across society, we strive to continually strengthen Macau’s drawcard as a ‘City of Sports,’ while integrating the city’s diverse and distinctive appeal to advance Macau’s development into a ‘World Centre of Tourism and Leisure’.
“This year, we are extending the tournament’s impact further into local schools and the community. Initiatives include organizing badminton exchanges between athletes and students, as well as introducing artificial intelligence and sports technology experiences, enabling younger generations to explore innovation in sport.
“Under the guidance of the Macao SAR Government and with the mutual support of the Sports Bureau, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Macao Government Tourism Office, Sands China will continue to join forces with the Badminton World Federation, the BFM, and the community, collectively positioning this tournament as a pivotal platform that connects Macau to the international sports stage.”
