The CEO of global gambling giant Flutter Entertainment said in the company’s 1Q26 earnings release that it welcomes the recent tightening of Australia’s gambling ad restrictions and remains confident in the ability of its market-leading sportsbook, Sportsbet, to maintain market share.
His comments follow an announcement by the Australian government in April that it would implement reforms including a complete ban on gambling-related ads during live sport in daytime hours and limiting gambling advertising on broadcast television to no more than three ads each hour between 6am and 8.30pm. The reforms refrain from the complete ban that some anti-gambling advocates had called for.
While Flutter no longer breaks down its revenues from Australia in its quarterly report – instead including them in wider reporting of the “International” segment – Jackson referenced modest year-over-year growth in both average monthly players and handle for Sportsbet in Q1 and said racing performance was ahead of expectations.
He was more elaborate on the advertising issue however, stating, “We welcome the long-awaited advertising restrictions announced at the beginning of April and believe that Sportsbet is well placed to build on its market-leading position.
“We believe this strikes the right balance between safeguarding customers and allowing operators to continue offering sports betting products in a responsible way.”
Flutter, which counts FanDuel among its core businesses, reported a 17% year-on-year increase in group-wide revenues to US$4.30 billion in 1Q26, including a 27% increase in international revenue to US$2.54 billion.
