Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has officially announced that the main event of UFC FIGHT NIGHT Macau, set to take place this May at Galaxy Arena, will see China’s Song Yadong square off against Brazilian star Deiveson Figueiredo, a former two-time UFC flyweight world champion.
GEG confirmed that UFC FIGHT NIGHT Macau will run from 28 to 30 May, with Song and Figueiredo headlining the event on 30 May. They are ranked No 5 and No 7 respectively in the UFC bantamweight division.
Hailing from China’s Heilongjiang Province, Song is known for his dynamic stand-up striking and nine knockout victories, with an especially strong reputation for explosive first-round finishes. Standing across from him is Figueiredo, the renowned Brazilian finisher and former two-time UFC flyweight champion who has recorded nine knockouts and nine submission wins throughout his professional career and has now moved up to compete at bantamweight.
Also announced for the co-main event is a light heavyweight showdown between China’s No. 15-ranked Zhang Mingyang and experienced American powerhouse Alonzo Menifield. Zhang has built a growing profile in recent years, highlighted by 19 first-round victories across his career, while Menifield brings close to a decade of UFC experience and is widely regarded as a heavy-handed finisher.
From 28 to 29 May, the opening round of ROAD TO UFC Season 5 will also be staged. The platform brings together top MMA prospects from across the Asia-Pacific region, with 32 athletes competing across four weight classes for coveted UFC contracts.
GEG further announced that “Galaxy Ultimate” WeChat mini-program members will have access to priority ticket booking from 14 April, with public sales opening on 17 April.
UFC FIGHT NIGHT Macau comes with the city having in recent years stepped up efforts to attract major international sporting events – an area that has also become a key focus for the six gaming concessionaires under their current concession agreements. The concessionaires have successively entered long-term partnerships with globally recognized sports organizations.
For example, Sands China signed a five-year collaboration with the NBA and successfully hosted its first preseason game last year, generating significant buzz and heightened citywide attention.
This UFC event stems from Galaxy Entertainment Group’s previously announced four-year strategic partnership with UFC, which will see three UFC FIGHT NIGHT events held in Macau from this year through 2029. This year marks the first year of the collaboration.
Galaxy Arena successfully hosted a UFC Fight Night event in November 2024, laying a strong foundation for this upcoming return.
