The nine-day Chinese Lunar New Year “Golden Week” holiday is drawing to a close. On Sunday, the sixth day of the Lunar New Year and eighth day of the mainland Chinese holiday period, Macau recorded around 184,000 visitor arrivals – taking the total number of arrivals over the past eight days to around 1.39 million.

According to data from the Public Security Police Force, Macau’s border checkpoints registered a total of 736,000 entries and exits on Sunday, of which 184,000 were inbound visitors.

Since mainland China began its Lunar New Year holiday on 15 February, the total number of visitors to Macau has reached about 1.39 million with a daily average of around 174,000 visitors, meeting the expectations of authorities.

Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes previously forecast that during this year’s Lunar New Year holiday, Macau would see a peak daily figure of about 175,000 visitors.

The Golden Week holiday included three consecutive days of more than 200,000 arrivals, of which last Thursday 19 February saw an all-time record of 227,943.
