The Macao SAR Government announced Monday that the casinos of three gaming concessionaires have been re-authorized to conduct a currency exchange business.
According to an order by the Chief Executive published in the Official Gazette, the three concessionaires are Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts & Entertainment and SJM Holdings. Their casinos, as well as Melco’s Mocha Clubs, are permitted to provide currency exchange services at their authorized gaming locations.
The specific venues include GEG’s StarWorld Casino, Galaxy Macau Casino and Broadway Casino; Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s Studio City Casino, City of Dreams Casino, Altira Macau Casino, Mocha Golden Dragon, Mocha Sintra and Mocha Inner Harbour; and SJM’s Lisboa Casino, Grand Lisboa Casino, Grand Lisboa Palace Casino, Jai Alai Oceanus Casino and Casino L’Arc.
The order clarifies that the authorization shall take effect on the day following its publication.
Macau imposes strict legal regulation on casino-related currency exchange, including the law against illegal exchange in casinos which took effect in October 2024. Under the relevant legislation, engaging in unauthorized currency exchange for gambling purposes constitutes a criminal offence, punishable by up to five years imprisonment.
