According to the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the average occupancy rate of Macau’s hotel establishments during the Labor Day holiday was 89.2%, an increase of 4.5 percentage points over last year.

The improved occupancy rate comes after the Public Security Police Force revealed earlier in the week that the five-day holiday from 1 to 5 May saw total visitor arrivals in Macau number 604,395 with a daily average of 120,879, an increase of 23.2% compared with the 2023 Labor Day holiday.

According to the MGTO’s preliminary data, 80.5% of those visitors or around 487,000 in total were from mainland China, with another 78,000 from Hong Kong, 800,000 from Taiwan and 32,000 from international destinations.

The average occupancy rate during the five-day holiday was 89.2%, with a high of 95.1% on Thursday 2 May.

As for the immigration control points, there were 1.56 million passenger trips at the Border Gate, accounting for 52.2% of total passenger trips to and from Macau. Hengqin Port saw 355,000 passenger trips with 472,000 passenger trips at Qingmao Port and 324,000 passenger trips at Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Port.
