W Macau at Studio City officially opened its doors on Friday, with Melco Resorts Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho stating the brand was aimed at a younger demographic of customers.
The hotel forms part of Melco’s US$1.3 billion Studio City Phase II expansion, offering 557 guest rooms including 127 suites, as well as recreational and sports facilities such as a spa, fitness center and indoor swimming pool. The hotel also features 1,100 square meters of event and meeting space.
Speaking at the opening of W Hotel on Friday, Ho said W Hotel would introduce a new market to Macau.
“As we’ve seen from the post-COVID recovery, the clientele coming to Macau are getting younger and younger and I think W is a perfect brand for that,” he said.
“We were very happy with W hotel and the Marriott team because it really does introduce a new segment of the market. W hotel has great synergies with the rest of Studio City given our focus on entertainment and fun.”
Ho also confirmed that renovation works on Countdown Hotel at City of Dreams were ongoing. More than two years after it closed for renovations in early 2021. Originally known as Hard Rock Hotel when it opened in 2009, it was rebranded as Countdown following the opening of Morpheus hotel in 2018. Melco later revealed plans for Countdown to undergo a full renovation after which time it would be known as Libertine.
“I think over the next few years we have different hotels that will need to be refreshed and renovated, and Countdown is on the list,” Ho said, adding that Countdown is top of the list.
