Singapore welcomed 1.13 million tourist arrivals in April, the second consecutive month of more than a million arrivals and comfortably exceeding the March figure of 1.02 million.

According to figures from the Singapore Tourism Board, April’s visitor numbers were the highest since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and are gradually edging closer towards the 1.7 million arrivals in January 2020.

Indonesia was the top source market, with 220,067 arrivals in April – up from 171,507 in March – followed by Malaysia with 98,190 and India with 97,029. Australia ranked fourth with 92,937 visitors, while Chinese visitation is on the rebound with 90,725 arrivals in April, a significant jump compared with the 60,888 who arrived from China in March.

In a recent note, Maybank analyst Samuel Yin Shao Yang said that Chinese travel to Singapore was recovering at a faster rate than to other ASEAN nations, buoyed by greater seat capacity and increased demand.

He also tipped airline seating capacity between the two nations to reach 65% of pre-COVID levels by mid-year compared with just 45% for trips from China to Thailand or Malaysia.
