Veteran tourism industry executive and current Chairman of Tourism Australia, Michael Issenberg, has joined the board of Australia’s Star Entertainment Group as a non-executive director.

According to details released by the company on Thursday morning, Issenberg will initially join the board as an observer while regulatory approvals are obtained.

Bringing more than 30 years experience in the hotel industry, Issenberg was formerly CEO of Mirvac Hotels, having previously worked with Westin Hotels and Resorts, Laventhol & Horwath, and Horwath & Horwath Services Pty Limited in San Francisco and Sydney.

He was appointed Chairman of Tourism Australia in October 2021.

“Michael has impeccable credentials and extensive experience across the hotel industry,” said Star Chairman John O’Neill.

“His appointment provides a valuable and complementary addition to the Board as The Star continues developing and transforming our world-class properties.”

Issenberg added, “I am pleased to be joining The Star Entertainment Group at such an exciting time in the company’s development growth trajectory and as the tourism industry begins its recovery from the pandemic. I look forward to utilising my extensive industry experience to complement the current diverse board.”
