The Hong Kong Jockey Club has announced the appointment of Ramez Younan as its new Executive Director, Information Technology and Sustainability.

Younan, a seasoned IT leader with over 30 years of global experience in Asia, Europe and North America, will join The HKJC on 15 November and officiually assume his new role from 1 January 2022 following the retirement of Christoph Ganswindt. He will also become a member of the Board of Management, reporting directly to CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges (ranked 9th in IAG’s 2021 Asian Gaming Power 50).

According to details released by The HKJC, Younan will lead the club’s IT organization in Hong Kong and at its Shenzhen Technology Centre, as well as the development of its long-term IT strategy in alignment with its business needs and those of its customers.

He will “spearhead the ongoing digitalization of products and services for greater efficiency and effectiveness, information security and regulatory compliance”, oversee the club’s sustainability department and lead the development of its strategy, which prioritises the reduction of carbon emissions, energy use and waste.

Younan previously held senior executive positions with Oracle in the US and the UK, and with Orga Systems in Germany as CEO. In 2013 he joined Hong Kong’s PCCW Solutions and was appointed CEO in 2015, where he spearheaded a range of major initiatives, including digital transformations and managed services for numerous government and local authorities’ applications and infrastructure systems.

Younan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Cairo University in Egypt and an MBA from City University of London, The HKJC said.
