At least 10 casinos in Cambodia have now reopened since a closure order was lifted in early July, with more expected to follow soon, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The Ministry’s deputy director, Ros Phirun, told The Phnom Penh Post Monday that the 10 casinos to have been granted permission to reopen include NagaWorld in Phnom Penh, Donaco’s Star Vegas in Poipet plus eight more in Sihanoukville.

“The casinos are limited in operations and must ensure social distancing and cleanliness. We expect more reopening soon,” Phirun said.

Cambodia’s casinos closed on 1 April following an order from Prime Minister Hun Sen suspending operations. That order was lifted on 3 July pending individual approvals from the Ministry of Health, with NagaWorld opening just days later. Donaco confirmed a partial reopening for Star Vegas last Friday as it prepares for border restrictions with Thailand to ease.

Phirun said he expected casinos in Bavet and Svay Rieng province to be among the next to reopen.

Individual operators are required to make an official request to the Ministry of Health, including a detailed list of coronavirus prevention measures, before being allowed to reopen.
