The Macau SAR government lowered its expected budget on the collection of gaming tax for this year, down 49% from MOP$98.21 billion to MOP$49.98 billion.

Macau’s GGR fell 96.8% in April compared to last year. The government received only MOP$2.04 billion in gaming taxes in April, according to figures from the Financial Service Bureau. This amount was levied on the March GGR of MOP$5.26 billion.

From January to April, the government’s tax revenue fell 47.9% year-on-year while the percentage gaming taxes contributed to government coffers was down from 86% of public revenues last year to 52.2% over the first fourth months of 2020.

Last year, Macau collected MOP$112.71 billion in gaming tax on a total GGR of MOP$292.21 billion, but the government has already predicted 2020 GGR will fall by 50% to MOP$130 billion due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
