Galaxy Entertainment Group has donated MOP$75 million (US$9.4 million) to aid medical research and support health workers in the ongoing fight against COVID-19 in mainland China.

The donation, made via the Galaxy Entertainment Group Foundation to the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR, is aimed at providing care for healthcare workers, helping with public health promotion and supporting the medical and scientific research related to the epidemic, Galaxy said.

“As a Chinese enterprise, GEG endeavors to support our country in its related efforts against the epidemic,” explained GEG Chairman Lui Che Woo.

“With the virus being effectively controlled in mainland China by its implementation of various prevention measures, their successful experience serves as a valuable lesson for other countries battling with COVID-19. We hope to further contribute to this fight against the epidemic by subsidizing related institutions and specialists in Mainland China to carry out the relevant scientific and medical research.”

The donation of another MOP$75 million follows an earlier donation of over MOP$100 million to support related efforts, MOP$20 million to Hubei Province, MOP$5 million to support anti-epidemic measures in the Macau community, and of one million masks to the Macau SAR, Zhuhai City and Hengqin New Area governments. GEG also subscribed to HK$100 million in SMEs themed COVID-19 Impact Alleviation Social Bonds issued by the Bank of China (Macau Branch) in support of local SMEs affected by the epidemic.
