The 28th ‘Walk for a Million’ event in Macau actually raised more than twelve times that amount—a record MOP12.4 million to be precise.
A total of today 45,000 people braved the cold snap that hit Macau at the weekend, in order to take part in the annual charity walk.
The money raised helps a range of causes including care for disadvantaged people, care for the sick and to provide study grants for students from poor families.
Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A., the casino operating company founded by Dr Stanley Ho, donated MOP550,000 to this year’s collection. It included money raised recently from the company’s annual truffle auction. SJM’s directors and staff also took part in the walk.
