Rainswept casino launches are becoming something of a habit for SJM Holdings, Dr Stanley Ho’s Hong Kong-listed casino company operating out of Macau.
In September the SJM-licensed L’Arc Casino and its accompanying New World Hotel opened to an unseasonal rainstorm. The same thing happened last Tuesday night when Casino Oceanus opened, but this time the rain was even heavier and colder.
Dr Ambrose So, Chief Executive of SJM, was unperturbed by the downpour.
He told Asian Gaming Intelligence: “As I said in my opening speech, in the Chinese tradition water indicates wealth and power, so it’s very appropriate to have rain for the opening of Oceanus, even if it means we couldn’t have some of the launch events outside.”
