The average occupancy rate of Macau’s hotel guest rooms fell by 7.8% year-on-year to 38.7% in November, with the occupancy rates in 3-star and 5-star rooms suffering the greatest declines. November’s occupancy rate was also 3.1 percentage points lower than October, impacted by lower visitation as a result of pandemic outbreaks across mainland China.
According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the rates for 3-star and 5-star hotels decreased by 14.0 percentage points and 8.6 percentage points respectively, while the total number of hotel guests in November fell by 17.2% year-on-year to 409,000. The number of mainland guests fell by 19.8% to 323,000 while local guests dropped by 2.6% to 61,000.
For the first 11 months of 2022, the average occupancy rate of Macau guest rooms decreased by 11.6 percentage points year-on-year to 38.0% and the number of guests by 22.0% to 4,658,000.
