Regular users of IAG’s website staging.asgam.com should be forgiven for suspecting Asia’s premier gaming news website is running much faster than usual from today – because it is.
Since its launch 17 years ago in 2005, the staging.asgam.com website has consistently grown in traffic and content volumes. A natural result of this is an increase in opportunistic cyberattacks, which affect all websites with substantial traffic levels.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, IAG’s IT team successfully migrated staging.asgam.com to a new operating environment with page load times reduced by around 45%, meaning the site is running nearly twice as fast as before, with more speed improvements expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
The new environment is also more robust, with double redundancy, meaning the website not only has a backup delivery capability, but there is a backup to the backup, so that three independent systems have to fail before the website would go offline.
“We have put an enormous effort into growing our digital presence, particularly over the past five years,” said IAG Vice Chairman and CEO Andrew W Scott.
“Since 2017 we have grown staging.asgam.com from around 500,000 page views per year to over 5 million page views per year, which is a very healthy number for an industry specific B2B media outlet like ours. These days it is not unusual for a popular story on staging.asgam.com to have tens of thousands of pageviews. Our overall monthly digital audience has grown to around a quarter of a million people.
“I’m delighted to see the improvements our IT team rolled out over the weekend, and I look forward to a faster and more resilient staging.asgam.com for our readers to enjoy in the future.”
