The number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 since the continuing Macau outbreak began on 18 June has reached 1,644, with 29 new positive cases detected in the 24 hours to midnight at the end of Wednesday 13 July.

Of the 29 new cases, three were found in the community with one of them a close contact, one positive case in mass testing and key groups and one case in other groups. The other 26 were found amongst people in quarantine, according to the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Center.

As of 8am Thursday 14 July, a total of 20,175 people have been followed up by the government in their epidemiological investigations. These include 3,151 close contacts, 11,145 “non-core” close contacts, 948 “sub-close” contacts, 254 general contacts and 767 accompanying persons.

Since Macau’s lockdown began on 11 July, a man has been sentenced by a Macau court on summary proceedings to five months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, pending payment of a MOP$10,000 fine for not wearing a mask and smoking a cigarette on the street.

So far, police officers have issued 588 warnings, and between midnight on the morning of 11 July and 3pm on 13 July there were a total of 19 prosecutions involving breaches of preventive measures. The total number of deaths due to COVID in Macau is currently at four.

On 13 July, 43 new patients were discharged from hospital, including 12 confirmed cases and 31 asymptomatic patients, for a cumulative total of 208 discharges.
