Cambodia has announced the removal of almost all remaining COVID-19 travel restrictions for fully vaccinated international visitors as it looks to boost recovery for tourism and business.

With immediate effect, travelers who are full vaccinated will no longer need to obtain a negative virus test within 72 hours of departure, nor to take a PCR test upon arrival. Visitors are encouraged to take a test of their own accord, however.

“Now is the time to open up the economy by learning to live with COVID,” said Prime Minister Hun Sen in announcing the latest easing of restrictions.

He also revealed that Cambodia will resume the issuance of visas on arrival for people entering by land, air and sea.

The Southeast Asian nation had welcomed a record 6.61 million international tourists in 2019, bringing in US$5.31 billion in spending comprising almost 20% of Gross National Product (US$27.09 billion). Tourist arrivals fell to 1.31 million in 2020, and just 196,495 in 2021 with spend of US$184 million.

Cambodia is one of a number of Asian nations to have announced an easing of border restrictions in recent weeks, with Vietnam last week scrapping quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated international tourists and resuming its visa exemption policy for selected nations.

South Korea has also dropped its quarantine requirements for international arrivals as of 21 March 2022.
