Landing International Development Ltd has announced plans to build a new “world-class international branded theme park integrated resort” in the Philippines.
According to a Wednesday announcement, the company’s Chairman and Executive Director, Dr Yang Zhihui, met with Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte and his cabinet at Malacaňang Palace on Monday to discuss the proposal, which would include a movie-themed indoor theme park, waterpark and other “leisure and entertainment” facilities.
Although there was no specific reference made to the prospects of the theme park housing casino facilities, Landing International recently raised the possibility of moving Landing Casino in Jeju, South Korea from its current home in the Hyatt Regency Jeju Hotel to the company’s Jeju Shinhwa World theme park development.
Jeju Shinhwa World will also boast a movie-themed theme park and waterpark when complete in 2019.
“Following our first meeting with the President in May 2017 in Hong Kong to discuss investment opportunities in the Philippines, we are honored to share with President Duterte and his cabinet team our vision for tourism in the country and our proposal to build an iconic international branded theme park integrated resort in the Philippines that all Filipinos will be proud of,” said Dr Yang in a statement.
“This resort will comprise Asia’s first movie-themed indoor theme park, waterpark as well as many other leisure and entertainment facilities suited for all ages and families. When opened, the branded theme park integrated resort will enhance Philippines’ tourism appeal, complement the existing tourists’ attractions and resorts as well as create significant employment opportunities for the locals as well as returning Filipinos who are currently working overseas.”
The company said, “President Duterte welcomes the company’s proposed investment into the Philippines and expressed his keen interest and overwhelming support to the company’s proposal.”
Landing International has been actively looking at investment opportunities in the Philippines in recent times and only recently withdrew its interest in the potential acquisition of a local gaming company upon legal advice.
