The Nova União para Desenvolvimento de Macau (“NUDM”), listed as the 14th team of the 6th Legislative Assembly election, has introduced a political platform on policies for young people, including the development of a “Youth Hostel Scheme,” conducting lifelong learning, creating a “Learning Society” and enhancing the diversification of the local economy.
NUDM’s policies were introduced at a press conference at Hotel Lisboa at the weekend attended by all 12 candidates, including Ms Angela Leong On Kei, Mr Kuan Vai Lam, Mr Arnaldo Ho Yau Heng, Mr Siu Yu Hong, Mr Tsui Po Fung, Mr Lou Kit Long, Mr Ho Chak San, Mr Armando Amante, Ms Ng Sut I, Mr Szeto Tie Fung, Ms Ao Sut In and Mr José Luís Pedruco Achiam.
Those policies cover eight major areas, including:
- Developments in the first place. Creating new development in Macau by implementing diversified gaming and global tourism;
- Importance of a livable city. Building a marine city, green city, safe city, smart city, responsible gaming city and world-class suit-for-living city;
- Prioritize youth policies. Introducing the “Youth Hostel Scheme” to ease young peoples’ housing needs; promoting recreational and sports activities for branding Macau as an “Energetic City”;
- Establish a “Learning Society.” Having better allocation of resources for primary and secondary schools; urging the government to provide free public tertiary education; promoting the concept of lifelong learning;
- Enhance the tradition of “patriotism.” Preserving intangible cultural heritage; promoting tourism and gambling culture; encouraging multi-cultural integration;
- Construct the healthcare system. Caring about the physical and mental health of gaming staff as well as Macau citizens; creating a new healthy living standard for Macau;
- Build an efficient and transparent governmental system. Urging and monitoring the government to improve and upgrade its civil service level;
- Cooperating and sharing. Actively participating in the national strategies of “One Belt, One Road” and the “Greater Bay Area” to establish the economic and trading bounding platform between China and other countries.
Ms Leong, who has been working for the Legislative Assembly for 12 years, requested people to vote for NUDM, adding that she pledged to serve the community and was confident that she understood the needs of the Macau people.
Mr Kuan Vai Lam said NUDM hoped to fight for Macau peoples’ interests and rights in the Legislative Assembly. He added that young people are the future of Macau, so policies affecting young people should be placed as top priority including solving the housing problem and providing assistance to youth entrepreneurship.
