The Macau Horse Racing Co, operator of the Macau Jockey Club, has had its gaming concession renewed for another six months, according to the Official Gazette.
Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lionel Leong, has extended the term of concession through until 28 February 2018, having previously granted a two year extension in September 2015 that is due to expire on 31 August 2017.
However, this latest renewal comes with a question mark, having been vehemently opposed by animal welfare advocates Anima Macau due to the conditions the horses live in.
The Macau Horse Racing Co has also booked a loss every single year since 2005, recording accumulated losses of MOP$4.1 billion in 2016.
The Macau Jockey Club recently transferred its casino operations, under license of SJM, to the newly opened Macau Roosevelt Hotel located nearby.
