The latest Macau table survey by investment bank Citigroup has found fewer players at the premium mass tables observed but considerably more being wagered.
According to Citi’s August survey, while total premium mass players was down 16% compared to the same month in 2025 at 525 players, the total wager observed was up 7% to HK$14.3 million – implying an 27% year-on-year increase in average wager per player to HK$27,284. This was also only 8% lower than the average wager during Chinese New Year.
Citi also observed a 54% increase in the average wager per hand of 31 whales it spotted to HK$244,000.
“This suggests that premium mass players remain passionate about the gaming and non-gaming products Macau offers, and they are still able and willing to spend there,” said analysts George Choi and Timothy Chau.
“We remain confident that GGR growth normalization will happen.”
The analysts also reiterated their belief that recent market weakness was a direct result of the football World Cup and that “the results from our latest proprietary table survey provide evidence that those worries are likely overdone.”
Citi said Wynn was the big winner of the August survey with 29% share in total wager observed, including seven whales seen wagering between HK$100,000 and HK$820,000 at Wynn Palace’s Chairman’s Club.
