The five-day Labor Day Golden Week holiday in Mainland China has come to an end, with Macau welcoming around 873,000 visitor arrivals during the holiday period – up 2.7% compared to the previous year.

According to preliminary data from the Public Security Police Force, the total number of border crossings (entries and exits combined) during the five-day holiday reached 3.8 million, a year-on-year rise of 1.6%.

Among the 873,000 visitor arrivals, 83.0% were from mainland China, while visitors from Hong Kong, Taiwan and foreigners accounted for 10.8%, 1.3% and 4.9%, respectively.

On the first day of the holiday on Friday 1 May, around 203,000 visitors entered Macau. This marked an increase of over 14% compared to the 177,000 visitor arrivals on the first day of last year’s Labor Day holiday.

Visitor numbers peaked on Saturday with about 247,000 arrivals, setting a new record for single-day visitor entries into Macau.

By Sunday, the number of visitors fell from the peak level, with approximately 783,000 border crossings recorded throughout the day. Of these, around 400,000 involved traveler movements, with about 182,000 visitor arrivals.

On Monday visitor arrivals continued to decline, while departures saw a marked increase. The total number of crossings at Macau’s border points was 849,000, including 332,000 movements by travelers, with 157,000 arrivals and 174,000 departures.

On Tuesday, the final day of the holiday, visitor arrivals totaled approximately 83,000, while around 104,000 visitors departed Macau.
